Perhaps Fiddlerman can take this discussion and turn it into one of his instructional videos. I'm sure there are many people out there having the same problem with bouncing who could benefit from his suggestions, but may never see this thread once it gets buried in the depths of the forums. My bow bouncing is better now, but I find that if I don't concentrate fully on it, that occasionally it will still bounce.  I have all the information, so I am sure it will just take time and PRACTICE to eliminate the problem.  I am really satisfied with the progress I have made in just a few days. Waiting eagerly for your video posting on this subject, FM.  Thanks again for the help.  Your really great.

Mad,

There isn't a problem invented yet that won't plague all the rest of us who are trying to learn how to play this thing.  You will overcome the problem if you learn from FM, and practice practice practice.  We have all been there and many will follow us with the same difficulties.

You're absolutely right ... we learn these new tricks to reduce problems, but if we practise them daily they should eventually become habit and we don't think about them.  While we're still in the learning stage every time we get involved in the music we forget our little technique lessons.  Oh well, just a matter of time, and don't forget the big word ... PATIENCE ...

No doubt, patience and relax. Don't rush anything. Don't get bad habits by trying to learn how to play to quickly.

good news, my bow stopped bouncing because I let the weight of the bow take more of the work.  I think I was pressing too hard but not hard enough or soft enough at other time.  I know that makes no sense but, I eased up the pressure a bit and it got better.  I think it is just a matter of time and making friends with the bow and violin.  I can see myself improving with FM's lesson every day.  He gives better instruction that the paid so called violin teachers I had as a child and the Public School instructor, well he was too busy practicing for his performances to deal with the slow learners.  FM makes me feel that he cares, and if we listen to him, I have do doubt that we will be successful in our efforts.

I know I am learning and that is great, really great. Just keep trying and watching the videos.

I think it is a matter of getting the right pressure on the bow and the correct tension on the horse hair.  It is a combination of problems and we will both overcome!   Power to the Violinist's and those who want to be!!!

    •    Keep the violin as high as possible so that the arm doesn't need to travel as far down to reach the top of the bow.
    •    Turn the wrist inwards slightly more than usual and twist the bow back outwards with your fingers.
    •    Keep your right hand fingers close together and relaxed. Do not squeeze more than absolutely necessary.
    •    For more volume and power turn the hand counter-clockwise rather than pushing downwards with the hand in any way.
    •    Warm-up and practice at the tip to get used to the stretch both loudly and softly.
    •    Pull your hand back in the stretched possition with your left and just enough that you feel a little tension and hold for 30 seconds. Do this several times a day if necessary but do not overdue it for risk of injury. It is better that you make a slow progress over a longer period of time than to stretch the wrist quickly.

Right on the mark.  Mad, see, we will get it, and FM will guide us to the promised land.  LOL  One step at a time, I have to study this clip a lot, I get better then I concentrate on my fingering and lose it again.  I think I have to master one thing at a time completely before I move on to the next issue.

I agree, the paid teachers never gave me the individual time that FM has offered in the clips and also in the chat forum.  This is truly a great opportunity for us.

Now we need to send clips to him so he can see where we are going wrong???  I think he offered to critique us didn't he?  We will have to see how that works.

If I am correct, the more time we spend on the fundimentals, the faster we will learn, in the long run.  If we get the basics down correctly, then it us just building on skills and the road to success will be smother.

As I see it.  I am still excited and can't wait to be able to read music and run with this thing.
