OK. I've been working on my bow bounce and bowing straight and its all improving but I feel that there is still something 'basically" wrong with my bowing.

Please look at the video and tell me if you can hear or see the problem.

All feedback greatly appreciated.beg

great demonstration of the importance of even pressure distribution across the length of the bow. Surprised a young woman I work with how effective it is. Of course now try to replicate it while holding the other end.....or not, its your style after all. Good job on the tune by the way.

There are many factors involved in bowing, but I'll consider mainly your hold.  The video is taken from a distance, so I can't see your bow hand very well.  But from the sound, I think I can tell 1) you are handling the stick itself very well, and 2) you are not doing as well as you might in controlling the bow using the frog.

From Ferret........

I tried playing while holding a frog. Dropped the darn thing and it took me hours to get the little critter out of the violin facepalmrofl

I think the real secret lies in the Bourbon :-)
Good job Ferret. I guess a top heavy bow is not that bad of a thing. LOL

I found that the extra weigh made it necessary to play 'sul ponticello'

I saw this and looked with a blank expression. I then went back and looked at other things you posted then realized, you got me. LOL... nice.

If you want to mess with people, take apart a crap violin , reverse the bass bar/sound post and string your strings backwards from EADG so all your fingerings will be extremely off looking and probably make someone go crazy trying to figure out whats wrong with "this picture"

Good one!!

Hi Ferret,

Your toilets flush backwards down there too don't they?  dunno Lol!

I enjoyed listening to you play while I read the other post! Well done. I don't know if I would have noticed if I hadn't been reading what others had written. :)

Nice job, John!

Actually, that is one of the trick to establish the correct base line for bow pressure and speed at the violin sweet spot/contact point. They do it at about 4 inches or so from the end of the tip hair with first 3 fingers as not to add/remove any additional pressure.

Well done.

With different weight distribution, I think you have overcome "bow bounce".

Sounded nice, John.  thumbs-up

Why not just make a bow with 2 frogs. Then you'll have equal weight distribution across the entire bow. Or at least put a little lead on the tip side and give it some "ooomph" ;)
