Chin rest connection

I see that although there is a cork? shim between my violin and chin rest, the chin rest is actually in contact with my tailpiece.
Does this mean that when I use the chinrest, the contact will cause the tailpiece to flex enough to change the string tuning?
I am amazed at how old people of my age are.....
