Leana, did you feel like you accomplished something technically? Will you keep going with the schedule or take a day off?
I haven't taken a day off yet, but it's only been two days- LOL I for sure thought that I would, but I really didn't need to as much as I thought- but a whole hour straight with no break will not happen again soon.
I suppose I learned technically, I worked on posture- left wrist spends more (not a lot, just more) time relaxed, and I know I am capable of sitting up straight now.
I learned that I can survive a popping string to the face- am considering safety goggles
AND !! For the last half of the month I added Susuki violin 1 to my practice. I wish I had the sheets for it, but a sound track came with violin- I remember some of it from when I was ten, but mostly I noticed that since we all know I am still mostly playing by ear, it's amazing to me how different it was to play the natural notes of a beginner.
I am trying to make another video, but my recording equipment probably has spiders living in it- doesn't work well anymore. (not to mention again how awful this violin sounds to me now LOL)
oh- one more thing-- I have never done a challenge like this before- I think maybe I am afraid of failure, but mostly, no previous challenge before this one even sounded remotely interesting to me. I really enjoyed this one !!
I swear- someday I will be playing as well as my imagination

leana - that string popping is no joke... yikes..
I am going to need this challenge. I quit doing it when I got to the point where I played every day no matter what for 45 plus minutes.
I am struggling right now when learning some new things.. and I haven't played as much this last week.. wow can I tell. I am so grumpy about this.
So I have this paper out and on Sunday I am going to re commit and post. Help keep me honest please.
We can do it.

I just ran across this and though it was started years ago I intend to use it! It will help me structure my practice time and keep me from putting practice off for this reason or that LOL! I also need to drag my full length mirror down-stairs, so I can see what my body is doing! I need to be sure I don't allow my form to get sloppy. I am using my original Beginner lesson book 1, that I used in school 57 years ago. It was never meant for use without a teacher, but I understand the sheet music notation and the specific violin notations, so I know I will be bowing each note correctly, and can spend as much time on each lesson as I need to master it! I figure I can use the Fiddlerman videos to pick up my fingering again and any other lessons that a teacher would show you. Fiddlerman will be the teacher and the book will be my " practice" book just like in the good old days!

Great stuff @Cearbhael - you have a plan - and it sounds like a good one ! We all need a "focus" -mine is different - that's not important - what IS important is that you've found path to follow that's gonna work for you !
Good luck !
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -
Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

Ty, @BillyG Your very right there! You need a plan, especially when you're no longer taking structured lessons! No one to tell you what to do or when to do it! So easy to fall into bad habits or to get lazy! I also need to include my flute lessons in there with the Violin as well! I never played any wind instrument before and I never had really strong lungs (almost died from double lobar pneumonia the summer between 2nd and 3rd grade) Music teachers always told me I was not strong enough for flute. I had a girlfriend let me mess around with hers and finally bought a used one! I am determined to enjoy it as far as I can take it! I will never get as far as I can on violin, but I do love the sound! Flute and violin are the only two instruments that transport me to tears! They touch my soul which is why I love them so much.

I've been playing every day since mid November 2021. I did take a week off after hurting my hands but other than that, it's every day.
So, I'm somewhere around 190 days total, 91 or so of which is straight uninterrupted every day playing, as of today, May 30, 2022. The goals I set for myself back in Nov were to finish Suzuki Book 1 and learn to play a few other pieces too. I haven't quite reached that goal yet, I still have 2 more pieces in Suzuki Book 1 to go.
The new goal, once I complete Suzuki Book 1, will be to start/finish Suzuki Book 2 and learn even more music outside of the book. Depending on how life goes, that should be somewhere around Feb 2023.
At this point I'm not sure if I'll take on Book 3 or not.

Well be done RDP. I kind of make notes as I go along and have a big notice board in front of me with stuff in but I tend to not have a plan. Maybe I should. I just think I do as best I can and writing a plan won’t make much difference maybe it will.
I started with a long term plan to use the Suzuki method to learn how to play well enough that I wouldn't embarrass myself if I picked up a violin in a shop.
Once I got started I set short term goals to complete a lesson and record a video of it every week if possible. That timeline got modified once I got into the more complex pieces but I still do my best to finish each lesson in a timely manner and post a video of it before moving on. That helps to keep me focused on practicing regularly so I continue moving forward.
Other goals were to learn other music which complements or advances my understanding/technique of where I'm at in Suzuki. For instance, right now I'm studying Paganini's Sonata #1 (first movement only) which uses 3rd position for some of the notes. I won't be learning 3rd position in Suzuki until the end of Book 2 so the technique is beyond where I am musically. However, I understand what's required and all I really need to do is learn how to do it over the next few months as I do the other Suzuki lessons that lead up to learning 3rd position. No rush or pressure because I will eventually get there anyway. I will also study other pieces as well such as Ashokan's Farewell and a few more at the same time.
Eventually I will compose the music for a song I wrote for a book I just finished writing. Before I can do that I have to create the score for Ailein Duinn because the score for the piece I want to learn to play doesn't seem to exist. Those are even longer term goals that require that I learn how to play, read music, create music, and then compose music.
