Just got my first violin yesterday and having same problem! Will try the suggestions posted. Been exclusively trying the g string trying to conquer it but think I'm gonna try all the strings a Little to not overdo myself....Already sore lol

hum... pinky.

I thought I was just a rebel. My pinky is just under 2.5 inches.  

I never considered it small or long. I have always just considered it lazy and myself undisciplined.
