In deleting an onslaught of Spam, I accidentally deleted the Goals for 2025, which was above a spam post. I have to start it over, sorry about that. So, if you want your goals, please repost. So sorry, but the spam and links are gone! 😁

I need to improve on my bowing. I know I need a better bow, time to upgrade, so thar will be taken care of.

I need to get a bit more accurate with my intonation.

I need to become more comfortable with my violin, since I am playing that more, now.

I am also trying to learn to play by ear. This would eliminate having to keep switching glasses! Also, allow me to just play something I hear that catches my fancy.

I have been playing mostly fiddle music, not the crazy fast stuff, the tamer fiddle music 😂, but that is not my only interest. If I can start playing by ear, I should be able to play simple versions of songs on my CD's.

I have NOT put vibrato or any other fancy fingering or bowing on here. Hopefully, I can add that for 2026.

Playing by ear has its issues. I do have a song I am trying a mixmof play by ear and then finding the sheet music to fill the gaps.

Intonation is a come and go. I wish I,had comsistency with it.

My bowing has shown some improvement. A forummember has helped out with some viola bowing tips.

I also purchased two new violin bows from Fiddlershop that really have allowed me to improve. I really have not seen this much of a difference between bows before. I have seen a noticeable difference berween each bow purchased over the years, but not like this. They must be a really good match for me. I might have to get the matching viola bows in that series, if the bowing in my viola seems to show signs it needs help from that direction. I am trying what the forum member pointed out to me before I replace them, though.

I don't use the others any longer, except an old bow I acquired years ago. That is a lovely bow and plays well, but the sound it emits does not match a specific song I am currentlh trying to learn, and it seems to match up with my Parker Fiddle better.

Just a suggestion but why dont you limit all new members to 1 post per day for their first 5 days this would save having to delete a boat load of spam all at once and would also give the opportunity to immediately bar the spammer.

We are limited as to what we can do by the forum platform. We have set other restrictions, as we are able. I will mention that to Fiddlerman, though. I don't know if that was tried. Thanks.

Are the “Goals for 2024” still available somewhere? I did a quick search and did not find that thread. I’m sure that my 2025 goals are pretty much related to the 2024 goals.

I think I’m doing reasonably well on my main goals -- I do notice continual progress. My goals continue to evolve to some degree, but the main things are still the main things.

And of course some goals will never change, never be completely achieved, i.e. “improve my bowing” -- I’ll be working on that to my dying day!

I am editing my 2025 goals. I am going to continue working in Memory from Cats, on my Fiddlerman Soloist 15.5 viola. I have started using my blog to record my progress, check it if you a wish. Comment if you are so inclined.

This is my blog lonk. Memory starts with post 87.

Mouse's Cubby Hole

This piece has so much opportunity to learn intonation, bowing, and dynamics. When I get it smoothed out, another goal is to add my metronome. I have terribly erratic timing.
