I think you are doing great for 5 days. Keep up the great work and check out this video if you haven't already seen it. You could benefit from getting used to having your violin higher up right away. Don't get in a habit of playing with it that low.
Oh wow! My violin is low yes... I didn't notice you were supposed to keep it high up!
Thank you Pierre! I'll keep my violin higher from now on! ^^
Today I was focusing on bowing strings A & E, while starting on the fingering too on those strings.
I made a short audio track with me trying out the first two parts of Twinkle Twinkle! My fingering's still not perfect though Could hear some screeching!

I was practicing my fingering and bowing using the tune from Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. It was difficult switching strings while keeping in-tune, and I'm working on it. Still takes me a while to make sure I'm now bowing before I fully switch strings.
I recorded this after 20 attempts, and I guess my fingers are still not used to fingering the strings - they kind of hurt now, with all the red marks on it.
Well, I do hope that it sounds better now, as compared to yesterday.

The note that was the most out of tune (off key - too high) was the D on the A string, third finger. I am not sure how to be clearer.
I don't like to point out every note that is off so I tend pick one note if it is more off than the others to give you something to work on. Intonation is important even to those who can't recognize intonation faults. Listeners hear that their is a problem but they can't pinpoint what it is.
Oh I get what you mean now Pierre! I think I placed my finger too low on the fingerboard for that note!
Thank you for pointing that out! ^_^
I hope the rest of my notes wasn't too terribly off

FM, i have bouncy bow, too. I didn't notice it for quite a while until I got my 7/8 violin. My bow is not bouncing at the tip or at the bottom, or a little at the bottom near the middler part. It mostly bounces crazilly at the middle third, down bow, and mostly on A string, that's why notes on my A strings sound weird. If I just used the middler part, as soon as I change bow direction to down bow, it bounces crazilly.
How do i correct it? I used the techniques you show on the video for the bouncy tip, it helps a little, but not totally.
p.s., Knock on the wood, my daughter never has bouncy bow:) although she has other issues, like plays over the finger board or tilts her bow too much and only uses only part of the bow hair, ...
Thank you!

Hi everyone! I'm still practicing string crossing! Wow this part is difficult - I'm still working on getting the timing just right so I won't bow both strings at once!
I see a slight improvement though! ^^

I see a big improvement from your last video I saw.I think you're doing just fine for the short time you have been playing.
Thank you Fiddlestix!
Today I'm starting on Twinkle Twinkle with strings D & A! I feel its tougher than the A & E one because both strings have chords beside, and I had to be conscious of not hitting either of those.
Anyway, I noticed that the 'optical illusion' is making my bow in D crooked... I probably need to work on that.

Your shoulder is moving as you bow up and down. Your shoulder should only move up and down to cross over strings. You also have to flex your wrist. Try standing against a wall and keep your elbow against the wall as you bow. This will help keep the bow straight. Try using more bow even slurring the notes, playing two notes in one direction. Keep at it, your doing great.

Yea I just realized that, and my wrists seem kinda stiff =/
Thanks for reminding me about it though!
What do you mean by slurring the notes?

A slur is when you play several notes in one bow stroke. Instead of up down up down go up up down down. It's really note needed on this song but it is good practice.
Wow! I never thought about that! Is it a technique often used in the more advanced songs? I will try it later today!
I bet it will feel awkward lol
