Hand has a lopsided feel from 1-2-3-4 fingering bias.  There are other exercises to do to combat this but does the left hand pizzicato work better or is not worth the bother for a beginner?

Definitely not worth the effort. Left hand pizzicato's main purpose is to pizz and bow alternatively very quickly. When you don't have time to pizz it with your right hand you do it with your left.

Like you said, pizzing with the left hand from 4-3-2-1 is much easier and faster.

Just finished the intro and the theme of Paganini's God save the king, it's the hardest piece I know, the sheet music is hard to read, but once you know how to, it is great! The left hand pizzicato on that piece is very very hard but after for a while, it strenghtened my pinky and ring finger.

@Ferret , sure, I will try tomorrow, well, fair warning, I've just finished it recently, so it's not yet very clean, a lot of intonation problems, but I will surely try posting it tomorrow. Cheers!

The Canary Polka has a lot of good l/h pizzicato. Listen to this : old recording, not very clear, but the pizz is, starting at about 00'40 :

It's very simply just 4-3-2-1 : all four fingers down, then each finger 'snaps' off the string (to your right, as you are looking at your left hand) : 4,3,2,1,0. It's very important that all the fingers stay on the string until they 'snap' off. It's quite a brutal action.
