@Pete_Violin yeah, I think that's one of the issues with having a teacher. You want a teacher that can challenge and push you, but still follow your pace of learning.
@Fiddlerman True, knowing the teacher better would make it easier.

@Bella86 My lesson was on Monday. Well. I didn't die, that's always a relief. Nice teacher, kinda finicky but that's what I need. I feel like I learned a lot, even if it was mostly basic things. Looking forward to my next lesson, although I still got a lot of nerves. Hopefully that will settle later on.

The thing that makes me most nervous in lessons is at the start where we go through posture control - hit the elbow, hit the shoulder, bend the wrist, hit the shoulder, hit the other elbow, bend the wrist, twist the arm, hit the shoulder. It feels like 10 minutes of Turkish wrestling, non-stop, lol!

That is hilarious.

Mandy, Are you still taking lessons? I know you've had problems with your elbow.
No, I quit my lessons back in April. I hurt my elbow back in February, and quit when I realized it wasn't getting better anytime soon, and I was going to my lessons unprepared and leaving in pain. I am thinking of seeing if my teacher would be willing to do an hour lesson once a month and see how I do with that.

It does however take a certain level of dedication to motivate one's self when not taking regular lessons.
True. And that's where places like this can play a big part (and youtube channels of dedicated teachers, etc) - I find that some form of human interaction is important.
(While I'm about it, thanks for the vids Fiddlerman, helped me quite a bit especially in the beginning when I wasn't even using a method - e.g. the one about holding the instrument without a shoulder rest, was mighty helpful. Vibrato too…)

Good idea. Or perhaps shorter lessons. Also, I believe you are the type that learns a lot online.

I had only been doing weekly half hour lessons before the injury. The issue right now would be the frequency of lessons, not so much the length of them. I can't practice enough to keep up with weekly lessons, but a monthly one I could. I wouldn't have to worry about having to skip a day or two and then going to a lesson feeling like I hadn't practiced anything for that lesson.
