Several months ago I started to wonder if I should quit or not.  I had reached a playing level much higher than expected although I wasn't expecting to sell any CD's. smile  Besides, I really did not have anything to prove.

I figured that I needed a "tie breaker" and what could that be ?  I dreamed of playing a trio with the church organist and choir director floutist .... both dynamite musicians.  Well, that happened today and one door closed and a new one opened.  Good news but things might get more difficult (they will).

So, if motivation is needed, maybe defining a challenge is a good idea.

They say the best motivation to get up and run every morning is to sign up for a race. Kind of the same thing, commit to a performance date and watch how much harder you'll work.

Congrats on taking a step forward !!

Great comment Barry!

Yeah Oliver, so happy you found something that gets your blood flowing (while still in your body of course).  I can't even imagine playing/working so many years to get my "skills", only to get tired of using them.  Maybe that's one good thing about starting so old, I'll never be where I want to be; just not enough time left in this bottle; but I know I'll get to a point where I'll be happy and confident with my playing.

Way to start a new chapter Oliver!

wow, Mr. O... congrats on your promotion...1st-place

I guess if opportunity knocks it's really up to us to open the door.

Can't wait to possibly hear some clips of your tri-performance(s).

I gave my wife a pocket recorder to record the event and she completely forgot that it was in her pocketbook when the playing began.

This is why some people are sound engineers and some are not !

Hopefully, there will be other chances.

@ ftufc    I suspect that reaching where we "want to be" will never happen and it ain't all about age or necessarily where you start !

Congratulations, Oliver.

Good to hear that you found your motivation (and a sweet gig to get your inertia up and working in your favor).

thumbs-up

Really nice to hear Oliver. Congrats. Now you need to have a long talk with your wife as to how she can make up for it???? What equipment do you want to buy now :-)
