Hi All

I've just uploaded my first video. The last time I uploaded it was a sound only file and FM suggested that a video would be better. So here it is.

As I said before, I've been learning for 8 months now and have had no previous musical experience. Feedback would be appreciated.

Its a tune called Redeemed. I've not been able to find the music for it so I had to 'wing it'.violin-student I went out to our cabin out in the boonies on the weekend. That is why there is a camp fire. tongue

Hope you like it crossedfingers

I like the fire as the intro/background. It's very nice to hear your playing and it sounded beautiful. As I am not familiar with the tune I just listen to it musically as you express it.

It is an inspiration for me to practice more as I am very far behind.

Best wishes to you,

Robert

Nice job, I thought for sure you were gonna hit the wall behind you with your bow. I thought it sounded great. thanks for sharing.

Good sound, good playing.

Nobody is going to throw your fiddle in the fire for that.

What a great combination...a fiddle and a fire. You sounded very good and the crackling of the fire was a nice accompaniment.

thumbs-up

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

This makes me feel like starting a fire and playing too. :-)

As I recall Ferret you wanted criticism. I enjoyed the piece and hearing you play. You can improve the sound at times by applying slightly more bow pressure when you play closer to the bridge as you do in the very beginning, or choose to play a little quieter away from the bridge. What happens is that the string is stiffer and doesn't vibrate as much because the bridge is holding it steady. By moving the bow closer to the fingerboard, just slightly, you loose that "ponticello" sound that you are getting at the beginning. If you look at your video you will notice that the sound is smoother and more consistant later and your bow further from the bridge. To play real loud we play close to the bridge and apply more pressure.

Keep up the great work. It all looks so peaceful.

laugh Nero tried that and look at what happened.

Thanks for the bowing feedback. Very useful. It prompted me to check Wiki on the topic. It had a good explanation of sul ponticello and sul tasto.

And I always thought that ponticello was an Italian restaurant down townfacepalm

Loved hearing you play. I hope to do as well someday. And yes, I also loved the fire.
