Greetings all,

I am a newbie and practicing the Stars Wars Theme. At the very start of the piece, there is notation for down, up, down on the bow direction. Under the up-bow note there is a small number 3.

Can anyone tell me what the significance is for this number under the note?

Thanks so much for all of your assistance !

My guess, from Googling to see sheet mysicnfor it, is that it is showing triplets and the three count a 1 beat.

What I saw on a few sheet music pages for it was, in 4/4 time. There was the up and down bow. Where the “3” was, it was always over a triplet. All three together get one beat. That is what I think. You could say, 1 and a” to yourself to keep time, but I am pretty sure it is pointing out a triplet.
