Hello!
I've just joined this forum because as an adult I'd like to learn playing the violin. My expectations are modest but my intentions are serious.
Who I would really like to talk to on this forum is Pierre, the Fiddlerman himself but I doubt he will chime in (still hope hearing from him personally).
I have rather fat fingers (not the 'violin hands') just like Pierre and looking at him playing the violin I wonder how he manages to deal with double stops and in general playing an open string next to the string stopped with a finger.
My fat fingers can't 'cleanly' stop a note, say 'B' on the A string and be able to play open D and E strings because my left hand fingers (maybe except for the pinky) stopping a note like in the previous example will always touch the adjacent strings.
How does Pierre deal with that with his large hands?
I foresee again someone throwing in an example of Itzhak Perlman... NO! Wrong! - Look at his hands up close. You'll see he has rather fine fingertips in spite of his fingers having overall big and heavy appearance.
By the way, I play the normal electric guitar just fine (I've heard some people with really large heavy hands can't do even that... so sorry for them!) but still my fingers are fatter than the typical expected violin finger size.
