While looking through sheet music I find what appears as chords for violin.  2 or 3 notes on one line.  Do you just pic a note and play it?  Is this notes for different parts?  To some this may sound like a dumb question but the only dumb question is the one not asked?

Definitely not a dumb question. What you are describing sounds like double (or triple) stops. Sometimes multiple notes are played at once on two (or three) separate strings. They're a lot of fun, and sound powerful.

if they're in a line you're probably supposed to play them all.

and if there are a few of them (my inexperience talking here) you can probably choose to play the bottom notes first and the melody note after.  hmmm nevermind, probably not 😛

Thank you Sara O,

I am far away from playing double stops but knowing what it is helps me greatly and gives me something to strive toward.
