I've been preoccupied with our new bathroom construction, some health issues and life in general so my new violin just sat for a few weeks. Tonight I tuned it up and was watching a couple of instructional videos. The first thing I noticed was my violin didn't sound like the lady's violin in the video, LOL. So I look at how she was holding the bow. That didn't look like me, so I watched another video on how to hold a bow. Ok, much better. Slightly better sound - at times. So I looked at my rosin thingamagig thing. All glossy on the top, some scoring I did to it. Did I do it enough? Time to watch another video. Guess what? Take some sandpaper (I used an emery board) and sand the top of the rosin thing until the gloss is gone, then rosin up the bow in 6" sections. Wow, just wow. It sounds like a violin now. What a difference. Friction is my friend,
