I have a short section of song that I would like to learn how tho play- what I would like to know is- can someone convert it to sheet music for me ? it is very short (as I have removed all the other parts of the song)
I recognize some notes, but am getting too lost when playing.
I downloaded an app- and it totally (well, I won't swear yet)
HELP ?? PRETTY PLEASE ?

Leana,
I didn't recognize the tune by name, so I couldn't help you look it up by name. Unfortunately, I am very slow at picking out tunes by ear. I did cut out the snippet that I think you are interested in and put it in an mp3, in case someone else recognizes it or is able to transcribe the melody quickly.
I tried converting it to midi and looking at it in MuseScore, but there were lots of notes for the piano accompaniment, making it difficult to pick out the melody.

Thanks for trying- maybe that is the problem I had with app- I spent about 3 hours trying to play it by ear, and I almost have it ! So…… maybe I will post it….. (or not LOL)
again, thanks for trying……..

Leana,Definitely it would be great to post it after you've gotten it by ear. Anything you spend 3+ hours working at to get the melody is worth sharing!
I don't know if fI will ever be able to find the video I posted on the "share your video" forum, but you made me laugh so hard about the 3 hours thing-- this took me two whole days (translation is- 10 hrs)
and it aint all that good, but I enjoyed the whole process- I'm not done, but…...

Well done @Leanna - it is never easy to pick out a melody-line (especially with other parts being played) and of course the particular timings... it's what @Fidelestre says - it does get easier with practice.
But - and I'm one of the world's worst for this - I'll pick up a tune in my head and play it "like I hear it" ..... hmmmm - fine in some ways - not so good when you suddenly have to play the same tune with others... and the timings, articulations and embellishments "just don't fit" because I've played it "my way" so often it has become automatic and I can't "break the circle" - LOLOL - but, that aside - you're doing great Leanna !
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -

THANKS ! I know what you mean- I taught myself how to play some of it, and then realized that I had to adjust- the old way keeps getting in the way LOL

Wonderful, Leana! Now that you've got the tune in your fingers and brain, you'll be able to work on other things like intonation, etc.I've been told that picking out melodies by ear gets faster with practice, though I have yet to experience that myself.
LOL- I'm going to have to look up that intonation word. (I'm betting it is important) LOL
I really think the worst part about doing it this way is I'm not reading the notes- which, considering I have only been at this for about a month--- I still need TONS of practice at !!!!!

LOL @Leanna - yes - the "notes" are important - of course they are - but your "ear" will tell you - MAYBE NOT WHILE YOU ARE PLAYING ( it WILL do, and almost NOBODY plays with perfect intonation all the time - it is virtually impossible on a fret-less instrument ) but your ear will adapt, and, you will be able to "pull in" to the note very quickly (almost as it it was an intentional "slide" - even vibrato - and even SO quickly it is scarcely perceptible to the listener...... ) LOL - ( like I can do it - NOOOOOOO not yet )
Trust me on this. It comes with practice... like I said - you're doing well

The little ditty won't leave my head ! (I think that is a good thing) LOL- realized a couple days ago- I am allergic to the metal for chin rest. I will be putting a sock on it. I have been allergic to metal for about 30 years- but it's been so long since I have had contact, I forgot all about it, and thought I had heat rash. (It's consistently too hot here- easy thing to think)

I would do it if I had any free time. It wouldn't take me many minutes. In the meanwhile you can ask Dean Magraw, the guy who wrote the piece. Possibly he has sheet music.
NICE CATCH, Fiddlerman !
I was looking him up, but never thought to come right out and ask him, wow !!
