@Fidelestre @BillyG @Fiddlerman
Yesterday I decided that I would start playing it without the CD playing in the background- I learned that it is much easier for me to find the sharps, and flats in my head for translation to violin, without all the background music going on- anyways, I'm getting better with it, but a solo presentation may never happen LOL
I heard from Dean Magraw, and this is what he said (I'm flattered, and inspired)
I swear- someday I will be playing as well as my imagination

@Leana - I totally understand what you are saying - if you "have an ear" sometimes it can "get confusing" while trying to separate out the "line" you want - (but, there are other advantages to having a "confused melody-line in your mind" as well, especially if you intend soloing the piece - you can unexpectedly bring nuances, timings, deviations, expression, articulation etc from beyond the "original melody-line" into play and make it unique ... unique to your own style - depends what YOU want to do - "imitate as closely as possible, or extend-upon and bring something new" - either is good... with the permission if required of the original author etc.. )
Seriously, it is SO awesome when other "real" (in the sense of "published, and out-there") musicians are prepared to share, help and give feedback. I have, in my earlier musical life BV ( Before Violin - LOL ), approached a number of very well known artists over the years for different reasons - and without exception, all responded positively and helpfully ( OK, for one of them, it took over 6 months to get an answer - but all good! LOL )
I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh -

He probably plays by ear and doesn't have sheet music written for this piece. Glad that you heard back from him. If you get stuck I'm sure one of us will be able to help you out.When you are ready, post a video of yourself playing the piece and you'll get a badge.

I have reason to believe that he actually does have the sheet music, but he doesn't know how to send it over the web. (LOL)
It's ok- I am playing it by heart now- next up is playing it WITH heart.
The piece was actually an oboe played by John Snow.
(I already have the video badge- LOL- you gave it to me)
I know, I know- you are one heck of a busy man ! :)))))))))

No problem, I enjoy your discussions!
out of desperation, and Love, I am about to buy a Lindsey Sterling book with the option to use "slow downer software"- any experience with this out there ? The genre is right up my alley, but doesn't actually have the song I want-- I am having trouble with finding sheet music for my favs- but maybe that is a good thing….
