Tips for 4th finger on G string?

I've got a piece in my orchestra where I have to play long whole note measures of 'd' which I'm doing with my fourth finger on the G string rather than open D.  After awhile -- I'm assuming because of a lack of strength in my pinky -- the sound deteriorates a bit.  Any hints or ideas for making a better sound on that note?

It's just like you said, you tier and press less. Do some fourth finger exercises to strengthen that pinky.

Also try having your pinky more erect on the string. Chances are that you are using the flat to make the reach. Using more of the tip will give a better contact.

Oh -- I was using the flat!  I'll try using the fingertip more...it DOES sound better!  Can get a little better vibrato, too, if I have enough energy 🙂  Thanks!
