The sliding idea sounds great. I have to try it. You always come up with ways to treach.  After you are famous will you start doing lessons for free on the internet?

roflol roflroflrofl HaaaHaaaa-aa... I don't plan to be famous, Kevin. I'm sharing any idea about how to make something a little better anyway.. (of course only if i tried it by myself and it helped somehow) birthday_balloon

@ Naska.... You are sooooooo clever, what would this Forum be without you ?

If anyone else is like me, they get bored with practicing vibrato without success, so it get's put on the shelf. It's like anything else, if you want to do something and do it right, you need to practice, maybe for hours and hours. It's very discouraging when it doesn't work.

I really struggle with vibrato, I don't know that I will every master it. I will be the first to admit though that I don't practice it enough. It is difficult so I I tend to focus more on learning songs instead.

Trying something easier. My point exactly, Ryan.

 I can't do vibrato so I'm done.

With all the talk about vibrato I got more interested then I should and I'm trying it for like 5 min in every one of my practices now. I have an embryo of a vibrato, it's slihjtly vibrating, timidly but it's far from a healthy newborn! You know what? Watching Fiddlerman vibrato mechanic helped me with my position. That straight line between eyes, strings and fingers, I realized my fingers were pointing more to one side instead of toward me! Who would have guessed a vibrato video would help me realize my position was wrong, heart this website! dancinbunny

Oh and I just heard something about vibrato:

Vibrato is all about the journey, not the destination.

I now understand what I'm supposed to practice! More softness like a delicate wave moving up and down instead of straight rocking back and forth.

Great NV. For you and your pains you might not need to look down the fingerboard for now. You may want to do everything else but have the violin a little more to the left than straight in your view. (Hope that makes sense) You can bring it more forward later when your arm no longer hurts.
