I know that there a thousand and one books, CDs, DVDs and such. But when you start looking at them one of the first things you see is a piano keyboard.
I don't really want to know where the notes are on a keyboard. I'm learning to play a fiddle. Yes, I know that there violin fingering charts but what I'm looking for is a learn to read music resource that is aimed at the violinist.
Any help would be appreciated

@Ferret - Hi John,
I know you kind of stressed no finger charts, but this might be of some help anyway to give you a little more complete picture. And it's just for violin.
The two links I posted below are on the same site:
This first link shows you the violin notes as you see them on sheet music, plus the fingering. And if you click on the notes you can hear what they're supposed to sound like:
http://www.violinonline.com/fi.....vanced.htm
The second link which is found under Music Theory on the site, shows you how to read music, and also gives you two tips for remembering the notes and where they are on sheet music.
http://www.violinonline.com/no.....eading.htm
The tips they give for remembering the written note positions is the same as what my piano teacher taught me many years ago, and I never forgot it.
ETA: Sorry - forgot to mention that under the Music Theory section, there's other areas to help you learn more, such as dynamics and key signatures, etc.
There's also a section on the site for viola.
I hope this is of some help

@cdennyb
Well you better pick up your 'A' and put it back on again. You may need it sometime IMO LOL
@Feathers
Thanks for that. Very useful. One of the things that I needed was in the first post. The note fingerlings on the staff. I was aware of the egbdf and the face. It's just getting my mind to pin them on the finger board that is the problem
