Ok, I changed my strings last week, And I thought they were getting broken in - but my D string doesn't sound right just below the bridge where you're supposed to bow. The rest are fine, and if I play closer to the bridge it sounds fine.  Do I just need to change it out? Not sure how to describe it, its sort of in tune, but sounds flat and my bow skitters over that section on that string only. I tried more and less rosin, and it's only the D string.  For reference they're fiddlerman synthetic (which I love) but although they were still in the sealed package, they're probably about 4 years old.  I'm just getting back into it! But this string thing is weird.  Everything was fine before that.  Could i have nudged my bridge when i changed my strings?!

I am thinking that when to are saying, “just below the bridge where you’re supposed to bow”, you are talking midway between the fingerboard and bridge?

Just a thought, when you put the strings on, did you make sure the string is in the groove on the nut and bridge? I know we all know it should be in the grooves, but could it have moved when tightening the string? Worth a check see.

Sorry , yes I meant right below the fingerboard!  So I end up a little closer than I'd like to the bridge..  I'll check the groove too

I would check the bridge with a credit card.

Does every part of your bow skim across or only one place? if its only one place its probably to do with rosin, but then again just my opinion.

Use a pencil to put graphite in the groves in both the bridge and the not to allow the string to move over years them easier the Grove for the D string might bet just a bit tight causing the issue.
