Sorry if this is a dumb question, but in Scarborough Fair, first line, last measure, the open A has a symbol above it, like a dot with a half moon over it.  What does that mean?  I looked through my violin books and I don't see one like it.....

Thanks.

Sorry I forgot what it was called. Try searching the posts, I know I also asked about it once but I don't want to give you a wrong answer.

A fermata, an indefinitely held note or until when told to stop, or when you fall off the end of your bow cool(I think)

I am amazed at how old people of my age are.....

My teacher(s) called it a bird's eye when I was first learning to read music.

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

Yes guys. A fermata is right.

In this case, very free and completely up to you how long of if you want to at all. Just end the phrase breathe and go on.

"The richest person is not the one who has the most,
but the one who needs the least."
