@ABitRusty -
Thanks - great video!
Especially interesting at 05:11, where he talks about musicians vs. "dancers might use another metric scheme to understand the music, because of how they need to move on certain words".
Read a very interesting article the other day "Dance, Music, Meter and Groove: A Forgotten Partnership" by W.T. Fitch. It was part of a neuroentrainment research topic (how our brain syncs to the rhythms of visual, auditory & other external stimuli).
It starts out:
I argue that core aspects of musical rhythm, especially “groove” and syncopation, can only be fully understood in the context of their origins in the participatory social experience of dance. Musical meter is first considered in the context of bodily movement.
My personal favorites of the other topics Adam covered in the same video:
9:18 - Music is for the listener, but the first listener is the player
10:12 - Ebm(maj7) and a discussion on register/emotion (VERY insightful!)
13:27 - Tips for walking a bass
14:41 - What's a good song in 5/4
...had forgotten about Adam's cool video, "Avoiding the 5/4 Clave (Sungazer's Ether)"
