I think you are digging your thumb in too much. You can use slightly less tip and a little more flat. I'm pretty sure that your nail will separate from your skin slightly if you keep cutting it short.

After having my nails split, break and rip easily for years, at present they are actually the longest they have ever been. It's very odd, as I haven't really changed my lifestyle to any degree, but they've grown quite a bit and not broken off too badly. It actually makes me not want to cut them.embarassed

While I'm not a violinist yet, if I have the luck of winning one here or eventually buying one I will have to cut the nails eventually. My boyfriend plays guitar and keeps his left hand nails short and his right hand nails long. This is necessary to play ukulele as well. And now it seems, violin.

I know I'll have to cut them someday soon, but for now I'm happy to have them long.smile

I take violin lessons once a week, so I have to cut my nails before my lesson.  I find it much easier to play when they are short.

I have to cut my nails about every two days. I am unable to cut them very short. Like another poster mentioned, my nails are attached to the skin very close to the finger tips. I do play with my fingers a bit flatter as a result.

This is super common. I don't think it is a problem except for the fact that you might get sick from time to time if you pick up some germs.

I have to cut mine every 2 days. For some odd reason, the nails on my left hand grow very fast! I rarely ever cut my right hand nails. They don't seem to grow. Odd, huh? xD

I actually like having long nails. But we give things up to play our violins. violin

I had a bad habit of biting my nails for ever but for some reason I kicked that habit a few years ago. My nails grow fast and keep fingernails on both hands short.

I have to wear gloves for my job so my nails tend to get very soft, so I have to keep them relatively short. So, maybe once a week or so they get clipped. If I don't they'll just end up chipping or breaking too far up the nail bed anyway.

I very seldomly cut my nails.  They seem to wear down or break all the time.  I did try to bite my nails but my teeth fell out. Next time I'll use super pollygrip

Haha late bloomer wise choice.  I used to chew mine all the time too then I started working on a farm and always had dirt, grease or other nasty things on my hands and decided it was time to stop.

Now I tend to cut mine about every week or two, but usually when i realize they need to be cut and am near a some clippers.
