After having my nails split, break and rip easily for years, at present they are actually the longest they have ever been. It's very odd, as I haven't really changed my lifestyle to any degree, but they've grown quite a bit and not broken off too badly. It actually makes me not want to cut them.
While I'm not a violinist yet, if I have the luck of winning one here or eventually buying one I will have to cut the nails eventually. My boyfriend plays guitar and keeps his left hand nails short and his right hand nails long. This is necessary to play ukulele as well. And now it seems, violin.
I know I'll have to cut them someday soon, but for now I'm happy to have them long.

Haha late bloomer wise choice. I used to chew mine all the time too then I started working on a farm and always had dirt, grease or other nasty things on my hands and decided it was time to stop.
Now I tend to cut mine about every week or two, but usually when i realize they need to be cut and am near a some clippers.
