Quick piece of advice to anyone new to hummus - it isn't hummus without the tahini, so get a jar of that and if you've got any bought hummus with insufficient tahini in it, you can pep it up with that. And of course as much raw garlic as you like, lol!
(my garlic-addicted boss once ate a load of homemade hummus for breakfast and came into work stinking, lol)

If you like garlic, but don't want bad breath or indigestion - I just wrap up a few cloves in a damp paper towel & microwave a few seconds (not more than 10 seconds). Still great flavor!
You can enjoy raw garlic & onion without the unpleasant side effects.
I've heard of people chopping or mincing garlic with lemon juice to get rid of the bite, I haven't personally tried it. Emeril Lagasse tosses sliced raw onion in cold lemon juice & water for that same reason, even shredded horseradish - I asked when we dined at Nola in New Orleans.
