Ok, I have been into knitting, trying to do socks. I have some circular knitting needles. I have 4 packs of the same brand, 2 sets of 2 sizes. I was looking at the packaging labels. One of the packages, lower right corner, it says,

"Best by : 06-29-2025"

Really? What will happen to them? Will they turn into crochet hooks? The other labels have no " Best by" date, just this one pair of circular needles So weird. None of the double pointed needle sets I bought have an expiration date.

This hand knit one does seem to look better than the one I did on the knitting machine, obviously, a different pattern. Now, the knitting machines have no expiration date. This was was built back between 1950 and 1980 something, They stopped making these Brothers in the 1980's. No expiration date.

Oh, well, after knitting round and round and stopping to check out my other needle sizes, I just purchased them, I needed the laugh.

That brings up a question:  Do Australians do circular knitting counterclockwise?  :)

With regard to the "expiration" date, perhaps the plastic "wire" that connects the two needles gets brittle when exposed to air and sunlight (like many plastics).  That would give it a limited lifetime.  If you're talking about double-pointed wooden needles,  then I'm afraid I haven't a clue...

I would think the flexible nylon used to connect the needles in these will last more than 2 years. I have some that are 15-20 years old.

Even wooden ones will have the connecting nylon or plastic, whichever that brand uses. The wood would not be flexible to make them circular. I have considered a pair of wooden needle end ones. The yarn would not slip off as easy. The drawback? The yarn would not slip off as easily. Rock and a hard place.
