That is really a good question but if I was going to design and start producing an electric violin without involving the cheap labor countries I believe we would have to put a real high price tag on the fiddle to make ends meet.
Labor costs, cost of materials (high or low quality), Slow diligent work vs fast and sloppy, marketing. Workshop rental fees, tools..... I think the list can go on and on.
Use the Chinese workforce and bingo, the price is much less and profits are greater. I can't figure out how we can buy a violin from China for $25 no matter how bad it is. A set of strings, even cheap ones are at least $10.
