A tune is a song without words, A song is the words to a tune, and a piece is a term for a stuffy selection, usually classical, that well to do highbrows like to use to sound essoteric and elite.

  • There's many a good tune played on an old fiddle.

As pfish said....
We don't play songs, rather pieces, works and tunes. Though many make this common mistake. LOL
Any other words to add to the above list? Jingles, Melodies??????
