TYVM @stringy - it's all about having fun (well, that's what it is for me at my age!  No point trying to be "serious" in my approach to playing....  So many tunes still to play, so little time !   Just party-on.... LOL)

Correct Bill, thats all anything is or should be really, fun, doesnt really matter what age You are. Its something you have to do, famous or not. for me I couldnt live without being able to play an instrument of some sort, or sing, dont care how good or bad I am, its a thing I am addicted to, and violin is worse than anything else I play, no idea why, just gets you I suppose.

Maybe people like Mick Jagger, who has absolutely no need to perform anymore, with nothing To prove, or money needed, still cant help himself, something he has to do.

Maybe all musicians are really narcisists, I know I used to love performing, its a real buzz that for me cant be explained, I will probably never be good enough on fiddle, but I am thinking of maybe starting some kind of Irish band. Perhaps play banjo or sing, or maybe bouzouki even.

Your Ding Dong Merrily on High is awesome, @BillyG

I think how you “hear it in your head” and play is wonderful.   When I’m playing, a lot of what I hear in my head is, “Nope, that’s not it. . . nope, that’s wrong, . . . well, nice try but WRONG. . . ” LOL.  You’re always doing it the RIGHT way, for sure.

TYVM @SharonC and @ABitRusty !

LOL SharonC -

When I’m playing, a lot of what I hear in my head is, “Nope, that’s not it. . . nope, that’s wrong, . . . well, nice try but WRONG. . . ” LOL.

Aye, that's always there as well with me.  Well to some extent - but it'll be something more like "Oh, I've got the stressed note on the up-bow... next time I'll maybe arrange the bowing differently" - well - it's more like an "image" in my mind rather than the detail of the wordy description.   Next time I play the same piece - well, it WILL be different (for all sorts of reasons) - oh - in fact on that very video I thought/mentally-imaged exactly that on the descending runs (probably why it's fresh in my mind)!

@stringy - interesting -

Maybe all musicians are really narcisists, I know I used to love performing, its a real buzz that for me cant be explained, I will probably never be good enough on fiddle, but I am thinking of maybe starting some kind of Irish band. Perhaps play banjo or sing, or maybe bouzouki even.

Cool on the plans for an Irish band!  Not certain about all musicians perhaps being narcissists - but I do see where you're coming from on that, and have indeed witnessed it on another violin forum where I saw a lot of stuff (not directed at me, but bad enough to make me leave).  Thankfully, we're not all like that!

I really enjoy playing live as well.  Even virtually / live-streamed on StreetJelly.  I get a kick not so much from the playing, rather the interaction with the audience - that is a buzz, and a lot of fun to be had both for the performer and the audience.  I'm sure a lot of amateur (as distinct from pro players in an orchestra) musicians and groups fall into that category, especially when doing it for fun and not having to do it for a living.

Anyway - keep us updated on plans/progress with the band idea there Stringy !

I think that was excellent Katie, your bowing is dead straight and I think you have really nice arm movement, I am jealous, intonation is really good now as well, much better than when you had tapes on. you will need others to play with soon.

Thanks billy g and stringy ! I actually have managed to memorise it so I can concentrate more on the other things like tuning bowing etc. Emily suggested it way back I think it’s a great help. Definitely was the right time to take my tapes off. Oh stringy I can’t view your latest vid it says private. Not sure if others have it or do I need to do something ?

@Katie L -

That was a WONDERFUL 'First Noel'!

Should we have Christmas all year long?

I think these Parties are really helping you shine!

Happy Holidays!

     ☃️  🎄  ☃️  🎄  ☃️

...hope to join you, soon.  I've been sampling many tunes to see what I can get to work in a medley.

Thank you billy g ,AbitRusty, Sharon Emily and mark for the encouraging comments. I’m loving this party looking forward to seeing your video as well Emily! I think I might have zoned out half way through and assumed I was out of tune ! I think my brain left the room for a bit !! 😂also Emily that First Noel sheet music you posted reminds me, I bought some sheet music that looks a bit like that from eBay I’ll post a pic when it come! And finally I’m not doing my vibrato in my pieces as I’m finding it distracts me from everything else.. think I’m done… till next time 😀
