Hello dear FiddlerMan members!

I'm Andrea, violin student from Belgia. Been playing for a little over 6 months and so far i've been using rented violin which i like, but i'm really dreaming to get my own. Been searching for beginner violins and found Cecilio CVN-500 from this FiddlersGuide review. It looks like a good fit and comes as a kit. Does anyone have experience with this violin or what other options are there? Currently my budget is up to $300.

@andreabelissi and others.  Temper the budget for that violin knowing that you will also require an immediate change of strings and a better bow.  If you can get a deal on one (I do not know if something like the amazon warehouse is practiced in Europe), the instrument is better than the “ violin shaped objects” comprising the lower tiers of that companies offerings (I also liked the Mendini MV 500, but I have not purchased one of those for several years and do not know if they are still serviceable).

The Tower Strings violins are a terrific value. Check this one out:

You should ask this question in the violin section. This is the cello section. Not many violinists come here. Try starting another thread the Violin section.

@Mouse and others.  Perhaps the original poster wanted a cecilio cco-500, which would be a cello.  Good luck getting one of those for $300.

The OP said she was renting a violin and wanted to get her own violin. Never mentions a cello. I think she should redo her post in the violin section.

Welcome Andrea!

I'd go for it, looks like a nice instrument, great value and you can play it right out of the box...that's a big thing, really exciting, it's great that it comes with all the stuff you need to get started, good luck!

PS. Don't worry about where the thread is, (it still gets read...) I never know where to go! dazed

I am glad to see you visit other threads, non-violin, Mimi. Makes things much easier to post, seriously. I really think about where to place a post about my cello that may be applicable to violin! I generally go to violin.

I think it looks nice, too. I don’t know what your taxes and other add ons would be for it, with you being in Belgia. Does your $300 take that into account?

I had a lower end  Cecilio, bottom line, just to see if I could hold it, finger it, and actually liked it. Of course, the bow needed replacing. It had a slight bend or the frog and tip were not lined up properly. Heck, it was only $59. I did not even expect it to be worth more than just checking if I could hold it. I actually liked it. I still play it once in a while.

Many people  say you need to change the strings immediately. I didn’t think they were bad and used them for a while. Later, I put Tonicas on it and they were great, but different people have different tastes.

I upgraded from there. Of course, the upgrade is much better. You get what you can afford. I have a Fiddlerman violin now and absolutely love it. If you can afford one, the service is great and the delivery is superb.

Cid - I just look at the recent posts on the right hand side and sometimes add a comment...it just has the title of the post...not sure how to tell what topic/thread it is under, wasn't intending to be blasé about it, I do understand the necessity to split things up - just felt a little bad for a newbie that might get it in a pickle.

...I will remember to check before commenting on a cello post from now on, cause I honestly know nothing about them...other than they sound nice!

Oh, no @Mimi Aysha . Your comment made it easier for me to decide where to post when I am not sure. Breakroom or Off Topic, Violin or Cello. I go back and forth so much. You have made my decision easier. It was enlightening. I suspect others do as you do. You were not blasé at all. I never thought of that. It is so silly I spend so much time deciding where it should be because I will read the new post list too and just click and read without knowing what topic it was from. It doesn’t click when I am deciding between cello, viola or violin. Thanks for mentioning it.

Now back to the OP. @andreabelissi, what did you decide to do?
