Have any of you cellists out there ever played cello to a sound track? I just thought about this this morning.

I have always thought of cello as being in the heavy side, not speaking weight-wise. It has such a deep tone, even the higher notes, although they are sooooo sweet, have that heavy full sweet sound. Because of this, I have never connected it to being played with backing, but the melody, not backup.

I don't have the equipment for a y of that and do not wish to get it, I was just wondering.

I am not talking about an electric cello, I am talking about a good ol' acoustic cello.

I am not looking for how to's for setting it up, equipment, etc. I am not looking for videos on professionals doing it, or "non-professionals" doing it, I am just looking for discussion on it, thanks.

Do you think a cello lends its deep tone for taking lead over a sound track backing? I am trying to imagine it, but I am having trouble, Maybe, because I am more in to not being heard, 😁.

@Mouse -

I love melodies played on the cello!

I also see a lot of cello solos accompanied by piano - usually the piano is playing in a higher voice, so just the opposite of cello as accompaniment.

If you ever learned something like Fiddlerman's A Tune a Week #35 - Song From a Secret Garden, there is a great YT Video Channel, "Play-Along for Cello" that has animated Cello notation to read, but you hear the piano accompaniment!

So, this is just the accompaniment - you have to play the notation.

I think it would sound lovely together!

I'm not playing a cello, but having fun playing lower than Viola notes with my low F string, plus I have a an octave pedal (haven't recorded anything yet) that puts me in the cello range.

I should consider this, too - thanks for the idea!

I love the Secret Garden, but that key, for me right now, is beyond me, especially for starting to use sound tracks. But, maybe working on the cello part alone and then add the sound track. I am always in the frame of mind to jump in, full steam ahead. Working on that frame of mind. 🤯

It will take a while, I have to get used to that key signature. I think it is easier for me to do those flat key signatures in my cello vs viola or cello, I have more room for my fingers, It is not so much the tips.

Thanks, @ELCBK.
