hi guys! I just started learning the violin in early January! I'm in my late 30s, and have never played before. I did play clarinet when I was in school, but that's been a few years
I managed to find a teacher near my house, so I've been taking weekly half an hour lessons plus practicing during the week. my teacher tells me I'm learning fast, but I have no benchmarks to check that - I just have to trust her lol
so far it's been pretty positive, but just wanted to connect with other players and hopefully learn a lot

Welcome. Started in my 50s and after 3 years still feel like a newb. Keep practicing, watch our videos and post some of yourself. You, and we can see how you progress as we also do. Having fun is my main goal. Some day, perhaps I'll be brave enough to break out the fiddle as the family sits by the campfire... ;-0

Welcome aboard. It's always great to hear from new players. I started playing around the age of 11 and I am still playing today at age 57. It's very enjoyable. Keep up with your lessons and practice and above all stick with it. Any questions just ask. Lots of great people here who will offer help, advice, etc.

Michelle.Lea: Welcome! This has been a great site for me, as I am in my fifties and just started playing a year or so ago, lots of good references and learnings to add to what you learn in lessons. Lots of fun ideas too.
Ripton: The "sit around the campfire and pull out my fiddle" idea is one of my goals too. I should add "..and people don't all get up and immediately go to bed...":)

hehe!! Just a couple of weeks ago I asked a fellow jammer, How long can I claim to be a newbie. He said, Well I would say that you are now a novice!! I thought that sounded good, but I looked up the official definition and guess what, it means newbie!! Sooooo..... was that a cut!?

How lovely to meet you. Congrats on learning to play the violin.
I stared at 46 and I have never looked back. It is my true love, my passion.
I had a few lessons... NOT near enough.. I kick myself for that.
I have learned volumes from this site and the projects. And some individual members have really helped me out along the way with support, tips and even a few made videos to help me including Fiddlerman himself.
I was blessed the day I found this site and the friends here. I would not have made it without this truly awesome site and the friends here.
Welcome welcome and enjoy.... It is so nice to meet new comers and hear them play if they feel inclined to do so. If you are super shy you can post a audio only.. Sound cloud or just videos with you not in them.
If you are able to post while playing, I guarantee you will get some feedback.
Best of the bests to you.
