This back track goes thru the modes in key of G
You will be playing a Gmaj scale right thru all seven modes. you'll see what I mean...
The purpose of this is ear recognition of the mode and chord progression. It's in guitar tab but don't pay any attention to that. Play the G maj scale over all four strings and try and let your ear find the mode with the help of the chord progression.
You could start the Gmaj scale on the starting note of the mode, eg.
Ionian = G note start
Dorian = A note start
Phrygian = B note start etc. Just stay in the G maj scale.
IMHO, this is a fantastic way to "Hear" the modes.
I hope anyone wanting to understand the modes will give this a try. It may take a few run thru's, but it's a 'Eureka' moment when you hear them.
Thanks, bv.

@Leana Thanks for giving it a go. I hope a few more will try it. here's a couple of more tips to hear them. Dorian, Phrygian and Aeolian are minor modes, so they all have a minor third. The notes to emphasize in order to hear the mode for the G scale are:
A dorian = F# note
B phrygian = C note
E aeolian (natural minor) = C note
notes to emphasize for the others are (leaving out G maj.)
C Lydian = F# note
D mixolydian = C note
F# Locrian = F# & G
Lydian was the last one for me to 'hear'. It wasn't until I played it against a backing track the the sound when into my head. or prolly more accurately...into my heart.
Heart is key-- and I am just now getting to understand any of this, but for sure it is fun- Thanks- I will try this again some time- I played a bit, and totally played some wrong notes, but I kept playing the wrong ones to make it fit, and dare I say, I succeeded once ! LOL
I swear- someday I will be playing as well as my imagination

if I may, It's not possible to play any wrong notes within the G scale: However, the notes have to be resolved to the tonal centers of the given mode. hope that makes a bit more sense. Maybe you already realize this, but it does take some practice to hear those tonal centers and resolve them as you play.
Cheers, bv.
yes- I believe someone was just trying to teach me that this week. Maybe I misspoke. Maybe what I actually did was not play a proper note- but a little slide, and it sounded good LOL Thanks- and while I am on the page again, I will give it another go
