I just listened (as much as I could) to a solo for this Caprice.  Anyone know what purpose this piece serves other than as an exposition on technical ability?

Paganini wrote his caprices before he could play them, they are designed as exercises primarily, but are played as stand alone pieces nowdays.

Paganinis critics at the time said he was just using tricks, and a lot of people didnt like him, also lots of people loved it, paganini was a marketing genius.
