So I was in the shower after listening to some old fiddle tunes on the internet and that melody just came in my mind and I started humming it, then lala it. Then I couldn't care less about my accounting studies I HAD to write that down before I forget it. So I printed a blank score sheet, picked my violin up and started plucking at the strings trying to find the notes. Looks like they were all on the strings I had been practicing these past few days: A and E...lol so it was easier then expected, though I did put a 4th finger somewhere.

I dunno much about writing music or tempo but it felt like it was a waltz, like 1-2-3, 1-2-3. I even danced in my livingroom while humming it to make sure it really was a waltz!

So here I was with a finished super simple short little tune but I sounded like a cat being murdered when I picked up the bow :( Anyway, my question is, how do I make sure I wrote that down correctly because I would love to show it to you guys so you can tell me if it's a tune you already know (and got stuck in my head) or if it's really something I came up with and I can jolt down a name for it?

How's about posting an audio of you humming the tune. Or transfer your notes in your head to the notes on your violin, then writing them down.

Maybe the audio would be best, and quicker.

Ah yes an audio, I have a piano so I could play the notes and tempo on it,maybe if I play loud enough my mic on my headset might catch it lol. Thanks for the advice I'll see what I can do. But that doesn't tell me if I wrote the notes correctly, you know the bars, eight notes and all?

Can you scan it and send an image of the music? Maybe we can all play it or embelish  it.

Use some recording software like Audacity or something like that. If your hands can't play it just hum it and record it. Make it an original song and find some musicians that can transpose it with instruments. A piano is a great writing tool as with guitar because the notes are laid out right in front of you. Then I'm sure you can find a certain person on this site to make your song sing on the violin if you don't have a singing voice.

Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
And she's gone.

....... That song above is a 1-2-3 beat then goes into 4/4 timing......

If you think you have something good as an original song, I say go for it the best way you know how and maybe someone else can produce it for the world to hear.

I tried writing it in Finale (demo) but it's just not working, the program keeps putting stop symbols where I don't want any. Will work on the audio and let someone else write it I guess :(

Ok I scanned what I wrote and here it is! DISCLAIMER: I have no idea how to write music so be gentle lol. If it's a song that already exist please tell me because it may be somethign I heard, dunno. I plan on making it more embellish with drones etc when I get better at playing a violin.

Pierre, your're the arranger! Of course am letting your link there lol. MadWed, thanks! Next thing will be trying to play it correctly! Actually it will be easier with the slurs that FM added, I was fumbling with my bow enever knowing if up or down was better. I learned what a slur was yesterday yay!
