Last weekend I bought a book of ABRSM Grade 2 exam pieces (with backing & demo CD) and one of the pieces has a section where you use the wood part of the bow instead of the hair (I had to google it to find that out lol!).

However, while I can find a few demos of the technique itself on YouTube, I can't find any help on the best way to quickly switch back and forth between normal bow and con legno.

Any tips gratefully received!

It's just a matter of turning your hand inward enough that the wood makes contact to the strings. It can be done super fast this way. It's called Con Legno.
Some turn their hands outwards.

Thanks, I was turning the bow right around in my hand and it was taking too long - I'll try your suggestion.
