That ROCKs @Mattwatt > I sense you feel the music.

If there's no audience to connect with, why would you play? I'm curious to hear an answer to that.

It allows my Inner Spirit to fly.

How many of you remember that from the Olympics commercial?

"While I'm no where near able to "move" people yet, my dear friends, I will eventually. This is my goal. If there's no audience to connect with, why would you play? I'm curious to hear an answer to that."

I can think of many reasons. Personal satisfaction, achievement, knowledge, enjoyment, a path to relaxation, improvement of technique, reaching a goal , the sheer love of playing, etc.  And then, you are also your own audience so to speak, and probably your most critical one at that.  If I were the only person on earth I would still play regularly.

Of course actually connecting with an audience and working with others add a whole added dimension to the art  and science of being a musician. That is why I actively sought and joined an orchestra so I could connect with other players and an audience and do more than just playing on my own.

At the level that I play at, frankly, no. I don't feel good enough.

However, I WANT to play for other people and have them enjoy it.

But one day, it will happen. And I feel that time is not 'very' far away. I hope beg
