OK, had to share a funny story with the group. My husband pointed out to me that my dog (Liberty - a beautiful but aged Labrador Retriever) comes and lays at my feet when I play the piano, but when I play the violin she goes and lays under the desk. I play the violin sitting on the piano bench, and I guess it was pretty obvious to him. (I am guessing that my husband probably wanted to go lay under the desk with her when I first started playing! LOL) We have to keep our sense of humor about these things and I know it was not good when I first picked up the violin!
BUT I am happy to say that now at about 5 weeks into playing, Liberty no longer goes and lays under the desk! Either I am making progress or she is getting used to it - hopefully it is the former!
Have a great day everyone!

Too funny! Yes, you must be making pretty good progress if your dog doesn't flee. Dogs are pretty harsh critics when it comes to sound...Our dogs start howling when I play--I'm roughly 7 weeks into learning--and one of them immediately runs away and hides the second he see me bring the violin out.

Great story...
My dog actually got worse as I got better. ha ha..
He will lay at my feet if I sit... and he hates three songs... I mean he howls from the other room if I play them.
Swallow Tail Jig, Minuet 1, Bach, Old Joe Clark.
He likes Amazing Grace.
Congrats on not making the dog hide. Good job.
Cheers,
Toni

My dogs hate the sound of the violin. I play in a room away from them, but my oldest dog is a big baby and wants to follow me everywhere, so I'll let him come with me. He always grumbles the whole time I play but won't leave, so I finally just carry him out of the room so I can just focus on my playing, and not the dog throwing a tantrum on the floor, haha.

lol great, gotta love them little mutts, mine must be deaf, they just kinda look at me as if to say WTH. had one dog awhile back, that if 2 certain people came over he would bark everytime they started talking. The funny thing is about those 2 people is that ya never really knew if they we telling the truth or not.
