Good Morning Fellow Fiddlers!

Well, I've just been full of crazy ideas lately (still looking for an artist for that FM comic strip) and it seems I found one that I can have a lot of fun working toward!  I wanted to get everybody's opinion of it!

I was talking to a friend last night who is a costume make-up artist (no, sadly, she can't draw comics) and she wants to help me with my next Halloween costume!  She loved my idea of playing Hårgalåten and the story behind it.  We have an idea for a "Demon Fiddler" costume with some cool make-up that avoids my neck, jaw and chin line.  Combined with an awesome cloak, we think it's going to turn out really cool!

As you all know, I always dream big! LOL  .....the idea didn't stop there.  I kinda want to enter an amateur talent/constume contest in the fall that focuses on Halloween.  Most participants do scary dance moves and such or even recite Edgar Allen Poe in costume. (most times, it's the costume that wins, not many talent displays aside from what I mentioned)

I'm not that mobile because of my spine injury, but my cane does add to my "character!" LOL

What do you guys think??  I have several months to work toward it (late Sept.) and I'll have to learn some "dark" material on fiddle!

-----

2.  Can anybody recommend some dark/evil sounding songs or scales that I can work on (similar to Hårgalåten)?  Nothing too complicated as I've only been playing for a year.

-----

3.  Can anybody give me some advice on making creepy sounds on violin?  I'm actually really good at tremelo, not so good on position changes! LOL  I'm also struggling with fast trills like in Hårgalåten.  I would love to work on those skills for the show!

Any and all help, recommendations and advice are welcome!!  I figured this would give me something to work toward and help keep me focused!

Thanks everyone!

Eric

gypsy, romanian or Klezmer style is very "creepy" sounding also.

I actually considered Nothing Else Matters & Unforgiven because I can play both on guitar.  I started leaning away from it though in favor of something a little more Folk sounding and old.

Although, I may do a variation of it.....I'm not sure which direction to go yet.  dunno

ooOOoo......I do like that video you posted!  It's funny, I do get occasional emails from Jenny O'Conner (aka The Hot Violinist)! LOL  I'll have to look that one up!!  It was because of Jenny and her group Circa Paleo that I got into Ciprian scales (aka Gypsy scales)!

Here's one to maybe consider.

yeah, I tried to learn the Gael from Jenny, still trying ha ha. I loved that violin duet and her version of Kashmire. If  you can skype Id help you with Hall of the Mt King or whatever you decide to work on in exchange for guitar help!

Daniel, that was awesome!!  That would definitely challenge my abilities especially with  shifting and trills!  I'll definitely need a new violin for!  .....I've been planning on it for a while and should have one in a few months.  My Palatino has a tendency to "choke" in second and third positions.  At first, I thought it was just my playing until I tried another, higher quality violin.   :D

Pfish, I'm still having trouble with those 5 note rolls in the Gael! LOL  I think we can work something out to exchange some tips! dancing

The more I think about it, I should combine a bunch of creepy, old sounding songs!  I love the video's of Queen of the Damned and When You're Evil!  So, my list of things to learn are:

Hårgalåten, Queen of The Damned, When You're Evil

Just need some more folkish sounding ones!
