I've been practicing 5th position this past few months but there's no improvement, whenever i shift to 5th it's uncomfortable and i cant distinguish the note much so I go to 1st position to find it and then try going back to 5th.
And is it really that hard to reach G and D string on 5th position even I try to twist my arm under the violin?
I use Suzuki method book 5 but for me that is not enough or too fast I want to do it more step by step.
Can anyone please help me? what book could I use and improve, having confidence and be comfortable playing in it?

The way you hold the violin can affect how hard it is to reach high positions tremendously. If you are stuck in a position and cannot free your left arm enough, you'll have a tough time reaching 5th. Bringing your arm under the instrument, as you mentioned, is important for the reach. Without doing so it's hard to get past the edge of the violin. 3rd and 4th are possible but you are on the edge at 5th position, especially on the lower strings.
How about a picture or video of you shifting? Would help us give advice.
