So i just ordered the Holstein Amati, it went from a contender to my favorite sounding on the videos i saw. Hopefully it won't let me down. The people at fiddlershop customer service helped me out wonderfully, answered my questions and accommodated my requests. I'll be getting rosewood fittings and a different chin rest I'm very excited to see it.

Nice choice! That's one thing I wish I would have thought to do when I got my violin, was had rosewood fittings put on instead of the boxwood it has. I'm not a fan of the look of the boxwood fittings on mine. Maybe someday I'll have to get my violin a makeover and have some put on.
I look forward to seeing you do a video with it!!!

I'm looking forward to getting it, it's exciting! A brand new violin, it'll feel like christmas when it arrives
My choice of rosewood was less for the look more hoping it would be more stable in teh changing climate. In the summer it's super humid here and i noticed with my ebony pegs that they stick really badly, then in the winter it's so dry so the pegs slip. I'm hoping the rosewood is somewhere in the middle.

mischa91 It's very exciting to get a new violin You're going to have so much fun when you get it
I think you should be good as far as peg slippage. The humidity sounds the same as we have here, it's really humid all summer, and the cold air + furnace makes the winter super dry. I have both ebony and boxwood (ebony on my Concert violin, boxwood on my ming) and the ebony did fine during the tail end of summer, and as long as I kept a humidifier in my case, they survived the winter just fine. I may be wrong, but in my case I attribute it more to the setup and humidity control than the wood. I honestly barely ever have to tune either of my violins.

I'm in Ohio too so we get the same awful weather I've found that my pegs slip really badly in the winter, even with a dampit in the violin for humidity and last summer they got stuck so i had to resort to peg drops. Sometimes in teh winter i'll take my violin out and it'll be completely un-tuned, i turned up at a lesson once and 2 strings had loosened so badly my teacher was not pleased about me having to take time to re-tune the thing.

Ah, a fellow Buckeye We can commiserate on our wishy-washy weather, lol.

damfino The weather is the wishy washiest today :/ I'll have to look into Oasis humidifiers and get one for my new baby. I don't think she minds normally because i travel to the lesson so need to adjust the tuning slightly but that day 2 strings were completely loose and a third was way out; i think she was just exasperated by it. Plus i only get a 30 minute lesson so 25 by the time students have switched out.
I don't play outside either, i don't mind tuning a lot when the strings are stretching, i'm fine with that.
Fiddlerman posted a photo on Leana's thread so i thought i'd move it over here.
(it might be a bit huge, sorry) I like the look of the rosewood, not sure about the chin rest pattern but hey if it's comfortable i won't see it while i'm playing. I use a whitner on my Suzuki which i like, it's comfortable.

Rosewood.. I like Rosewood. Yes yes.. someday I will have that on my violin. I think.
I have been playing both violins lately. My Soloist and Ming... I think Ming is getting ready for strings.. but since I am splurging for me lately.. I think I will wait til the need is great. (ps.. if anyone ever needs justification for two decent violins. I put Larsens on both violins at the same time.. obviously I was trying to break in the Ming so it got full use out of the strings.
Vibrato Desperato.... Desperately seeking vibrato

I've really liked the Oasis humidifier. It stays in place in the case with a magnet, it crinkles up as it dries out so you know when you need to refill. I haven't had any issues with it leaking, though I know anything with water in it has that possibility of doing eventually, so I just make sure where it is in my case the water would head away from my violin in the case of a leak.I haven't seen them on the Fiddlershop website, but he might have them in stock, since he says that not everything is listed there...
I looked up the oasis, looks like a nice little piece of equipment. I'll definitely try one out.

I like the rosewood too. Those Mings are lovely, pricey but lovely. I don't think i've played my strings to death yet o the suzuki, they might be due for a change but i don't think they're worn out yet. I've got a spare set ready to go when i can get round to changing them out. I can't wait to break my new violin in.

Thats a beauty violin! I am sure it will sound as great as it looks!
Agreed with @damfino about the Oasis humidifier. I have the one for a guitar, but just put it in the case with my violin, never leaks and takes about a week to dry up, in my climate anyway.
@coolpinkone, A Soloist and a Ming! Jealous!! lol

I can't wait to see it in person, if it's half as pretty as the photo shows i'll be happy.
I'll try one out, i have the dampit in my suzuki and it's been okay when i remember to wet it but i like the idea that the whole case is kept humid not just the violin.
