About two months ago, give or take, I finally broke down and started taking lessons. I knew this day was coming, but for some reason I avoided it for a long, long time. The allure of learning on my own was very strong, but for me, ultimately proved impractical. I had peaked out, and nothing I played really sounded that good. I could recognize in my technique many flaws, but with only myself to hold me accountable, I wasn't fixing them. So I looked to the local symphony and found a teacher that could work with my schedule.
Skip ahead to present, and it's proving to be the best decision I have ever made. I really wish I had started with lessons from day one. After watching me play once, she broke down everything I was doing and basically had me start from scratch. A new bow hold, a new posture, a new left hand and finger technique. Plus she introduced me to the wonderful world of scales!
Each day I can see myself getting better. I'm still at a basic/beginner level, but some of the tunes I used to play prior to lessons now sound (in my humble opinion) really good. I'm excited about where I will be in a years time.
Anyways, just wanted to share.
Cheers!
Never mind maneuvers, just go straight at them.

thats fantastic! I wish i could take lessons but sadly there are no teachers where im at, at least none that i have found. Its always nice to have someone else listen to you and look at what your doing and to just fix things when we start to fall into bad habbits. I'm so glad you seem to have found a good instructor! keep up the good work.

@LyleA I am doing half and half, taking a lesson every 2 months. I was afraid I would develop bad habits. Bad habits are so hard to break!
I can read music so playing was no issue. Playing WELL was going to be an issue without the correct technique.

@Shell yeah, I've looked into them but my schedule is so random some days that it can be really hard to actually schedule a lesson and stick to it and i hate standing an instructor up. But hopefully one of these days i can sit down and actually find a good instructor who i can work with. luckily in about a year i'll be back state side so i hope it'll be easier to find one or at least be easier for me to get on a regular schedule. untill then ill just try and post regular critique videos and work with all the feedback that i can
