I always used a digital tuner until one day I couldn't find it. I tried tuning my A string to what I thought sounded correct and then went ahead and tuned all the other strings to a fifth. Later after finding the tuner, I found out from it that I was just about spot on.
If we use an electronic tuner at first soon we learn the sound and know when it's not right. After just a short time playing you know right away when a note doesn't sound right. We have to learn to trust our ears, they work much better than you think they do.

What Tuner do You use, may i ask?
It is called the MeIdeal MT560W.
Ha ha, now that I look it up on the web, I find that it is made especially for wind instruments! Maybe that just means that it has modes for use with transposing instruments: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T.....instrument . I have been thinking about getting a second tuner of a different model, to use one in metronome mode and one in tuning mode, and to be able to check them against each other for accuracy.
Thank You, RosinedUp!
Nice idea, btw! =)
