try holding it like a guitar and rocking your finger side to side. that helped me find just the right type of pressure for the fingers. It also made my left hand fingering better in general.
I hold mine like a guitar > usually in the morning before I go to work. Its early and > well playing it when I get home is one thing with others in my house but at 5:00 am would be pushing it. It is helping me a lot with what you posted pfish.

Ok Rob... I just had a little moment with my first finger!!!! I was playing around on the violin.. making up little Irish tunes...( yes.. thanks to the A string and some five note rolls.. I can do some improve.
Okay..back to my finger.. it moved independently on the violin without my hand willing it to...if that makes sense. I kept looking it at and it was like I was saying... "Hello Finger, it is about time you showed up!" It was a good sensation, as I kept doing it and getting cocky with it, I sort of lost the momentum.
I thought of this thread and I thought I would share.
@Kevin... omg... when you said put glue on your fingers I spit out my beverage.. lololol
Off to see if I can duplicate.

Thats awesome! I was foolin around with Swallowtail jig this morning and I got a really nice 5 note roll goin. I then tried The Gael thinking I could do it but I still dont quite have the rythm yet. I do feel that my fingers are moving faster though. Brain has to keep creating those neural pathways! Always nice to hear of any improvement! Congrats!
