I remember when I was in the third grade I begged my mom to let me play the violin. My good friend that I road to school with played the violin, and every time I went to her house she would practice and occasionally let me play.
I finally talked my mom into letting me play, it was one the best things she ever let me do. After a year or two of playing and showing my mom that I was serious about orchestra she decided to surprise me with my very own violin. I loved my instrument so much I gave it a name! FredRick
I played my violin all the time. When I started middle school I was eligible to try out for the honor orchestra. I tried out and made it. I really enjoyed playing with the honor orchestra because it pushed me to play better than ever.
So to answer the question asked it was my idea to play the violin. I am glad that I was able to persuade my parents into letting my play the violin because it has definatly brought me great joy.

Whos idea was it for you to start playing the fiddle? Was it your idea, your parents or someone else? And why?
when i was 8 in 4th grade, in music class, we learned to read music and play the recorder. i told my parents that i wanted to play the violin in 5th grade orchestra. at first, i suppose my parents thought that it would be one of those child phases when they just wanted to do something for the sake of it and were somewhat reluctant to buy me an instrument, but i begged and they bought me my first violin and since then i've never given it up

i was 4 years old when i first heard the song devil when down to georgia by the charlie daniels band. and after i first heard the song i pestered my parents that i wanted to learn to play that song. i pestered them and begged them for 2 years before my mother gave in and bough me my first violin at age 6. she enrolled me in lesson and up until i was 12 years old i took classical violin lessons. i stopped my classical lessons there and until about a tear ago i stopped with lessons all together and was just playing by myself. i am now 16 years old and take violin lessons learning to play charlie daniels' songs and also many rock and roll songs.

My idea. Truth be told, I was inspired by an anime I watched a month or so ago. It was about a girl going to a school that had a general studies department as well as a music department. She was in the general studies department. The school was built by a man a hundred years or so before who had the rare talent to see Fairies of Music and saved such a fairy, who blessed him and his school of music he dreamed of building one day. The girl, Kahoko Hino, happens to be outside school one day and sees the fairy. The fairy, Lili, is so pleased by this that it gives Kahoko a magic violin and decides to hold a school-wide competition (most are held for the Music Department only) and enters her in it. Having never played the violin before, she learns to play it well due to it's magic. She has to struggle with a lot of prejudice from the Music Department students as well as her fellow competitors. At first she hates the violin and for being forced to play it, but she eventually grows to love it as well as everything it has gotten her, especially her new friends. Of course tragedy strikes yet she perseveres and gives it her all because she loves the violin so much.
While the anime is made for younger girls, I really liked the message it gave. To never give up on what you care about. To see even a fictional girl go through such hardships but continue on was really inspiring. Plus I got to hear a lot of amazing classical music, which was quite awesome. All I need to do now is find a violin and a teacher and I'll be good to go!
For anyone wishing to watch the anime, it is called La Corda d'Oro primo passo and can be seen for free (with ads) on crunchyroll.com. Maybe the anime will inspire someone else to play
Thank you all for your inspiring stories. I really appreciate them. Take care.

La Corda d'Oro? I loved that anime
Why do you think I asked for the Ave Maria

LOL but why'd you say it was for young girls lol.
Glad someone else has seen it I say it is for younger girls because it is considered a Shoujo anime, which is an anime made for school aged girls. Note all the bishounen, or "beautiful" young men the female lead is surrounded by, as well as the many hints of romance. You have to admit it is a rather girly anime, but I think it's awesome that you like it so much. Don't feel bad, because sensitive men rock! I know so, because my sweetheart is just as easily teary eyed as me when watching Jackie Evancho or other such videos.
Take care,

My grandfather from Italy plays the violin and so do many of my uncles and cousins. My Dad plays the bass and guitar. I guess I kind of come from a musical family. I think I picked up the fiddle when I was about 9 years old and started jamming away. I am sure I sounded pretty bad. My parents seem to think I might have the musical gene. The rest is history. I really love it and hope to be really good one day like my grandfather and uncles.
My parents always tell me it is gift that no one can ever take away from you.
Good night everyone my mom is telling me I need to get to bed!! Looking forward to the raffle tomorrow. Good luck everyone!
