Are you on Windows 7 by any chance? If so, you should have Windows Live Movie Maker, as I believe it comes with Windows 7 (at least it did for me). If you do, you can use that to record using your webcam.

Go into Windows Live Movie Maker and you'll see a button on tool bar that has a picture of a webcam and says "Webcam Video" underneath it. Click on that.

The first time you do it, it will probably as you to verify which webcam and microphone you wish to use. You can probably just leave the default settings, then click OK (or Continue...I can remember which it was).

Then you'll see a preview of what your camera sees, and above that, a red Record button, a blue Stop button and an X Cancel button. It should be self-explanatory from there.

Click on Record when you're ready to record, then click on Stop when you're done. After you click stop, it prompts you to save it; at that time you can select a location where you want to save the file and rename it if you want.

Then it returns to the editing screen where you can edit your video if you wish. And, on the Home tab, there's even a button that lets you upload directly to Youtube.
