I'm pretty excited about this new gadget! I don't like that my Samsung 'selfie-side' camera doesn't have access to the better quality features of the backside cameras! ...but I feel I need to see how I'm positioned when filming by myself.
Saw this a week or so ago, guess I forgot to talk about it ... if anyone has one, let me know if you like it!
Okay, this isn't that new, but I never thought of using a camera app other than what came with my phone. Top 5 Free Professional DSLR Camera Apps for Android!
...know of something better for 2024?
There's some here I haven't heard of in here.
If anyone has tried 'n-Track Studio' or one of the other lesser known apps - I'd like to know if they are easier to use than PreSonus, Logic Pro, Ableton, etc...
If anyone has any info on new mics for 2024... let me know!

@elcbk theres many ways to go.. im sure youve found some great ones already...but for those that may not know about these devices things like below are handy. you can pair with external wired and wireless mics. I like the gopros but the insta 360 ace pro is cool for its flip screen. DJI has a pocket 3 which i had a 1st version of but didnt like the fact that i had to go to DJI and download tbeir software directly. Everyone else has their software on google play..
or you could use a little mirror to point to back of phone to show you what its displaying..
I like the rode stereo external mic but here is a insta 360 option.
they all work about the same...cant pick the wrong one.
Any of the cameras have apps that let you monitor what the selected lens is viewing..SO.. you can use your phone or ipad as a monitor and record with the gopro or other camera.

I was looking at the wireless Røde mic and also the Røde AI-micro usb audio interface, but I could use a little light, too. I probably need a little different interface/hub - only have the 1 port for charging on my Samsung Note 10+, no other ways to connect except Blu-tooth. I'm trying to keep equipment minimal/compact - maybe 1 electrical cord.
So, it's bad enough we have to not only learn to play our Violin, Viola or Cello, but learn to back it up with accompaniment, make a GREAT recording of it... AND a cool video!
This is really more than I signed up for!
I have looked at this app for filming - leaning toward this, but I want to learn a little more, 1st. MCPro24fps Tutorial for Beginners - Professional Camera App for Android.
More importantly, I have also been looking at filming & animation apps for ANDROID. Prisma 3D '3.0' is supposed to come out soon & Reconn 4D just came out new in March, but there's talk of updates in progress/available at any moment! Both FREE to download, but don't know if it's just a free trial(?) They will obviously be competing further with future updates. These are really amazing for android (even easy motion capture)!
I think both of these have an easier interface/controls are simpified, compare to Blender Mobile, but I'd like to wait if updates are near - for a more accurate comparison.
I would probably be more apt to start with one of these apps, because less learning curve than Blender & Unreal Engine. ... my Samsung phone is starting to feel old, though.
Some new 'Live Photo Animation' apps for android ARE cool. Didn't realize the extent of 3D Scan apps for Android - pretty sure both 'Prisma 3D' and Reconn 4D can already do a 3D scan.
The Blackmagic app for iphones is interesting - don't know if they are still offering a deal on DaVinci Resolve 18 with it, didn't know that Blackmagic bought DaVinci systems!
...thinking about my modal donut.

I know for sure blackmagic design has owned davinci since ive been using and posting about it.
think they bought the original back in 2010.
whats blender mobile Emily? have you been using it? in what ways is the interfa e easier to use do you think?

ummm..noody said you HAD to do any of that stuff... to ME you tend to go off into chasing squirrels when you see some things and want to investigate everything about it.. R-E-L-A-X. .. just enjoy violining and forget the video making.
making vids is fun too though..

I was joking! ...it's just funny where we can end up, when heading on an adventure!
... don't think I even considered recording myself when I made that fateful decision to learn how to play the violin! NEVER EVER would've guessed I'd want to learn anything about Music Theory, either!
There's less 'buttons' to push on Prisma 3D & Reconn 4D (they are similar). Actually, the controls seem more intuitive to me, so maybe more automated - compared to Blender Mobile. I watched a couple videos on each one.
Jeez, I'd never thought about pairing a violin recording to a slide show, but with some of these apps (for android) - I can see some cool possibilities!

Hadn't thought about a newer phone, but just took a peek... kinda tempting, jeez - a lot more A.I.!
btw, have to chase squirrels to find out if I think they're worth catching!

Okay, I had to at least LOOK at the possibilities... anyone waffling between buying a camera vs a newer Smartphone for recording - may be interested in this.
What I would've given to have the Samsung 'Galaxy s24 Ultra' 20 years ago!
What caught my eye about this phone from it's specs - is how much more durable it is made, 1TB storage, has Android 14 & a 200 megapixel camera. The ability to switch between front & rear cameras (WITHOUT interrupting a video recording) is AMAZING, but I think the 2 telephoto lenses will be upgraded substantially in the next gen S25.
That 'cage' looks like a typical phone cover - VERY cool!
Never thought I'd see lenses & filters being used with a cell phone!
BUT, what about waiting until the 's25' becomes available? ...maybe as little as 6 months from now!

ANYWAY, I'm still interested in adding lyric text to my instrumental videos (for songs I like to play).
So, if I don't want to do a bunch of audio editing, been thinking a better phone might make it more feasible to just use a free video editing app for Android. I looked at several - leaning toward 'VN'. It's supposed to be easy to use, ideal for videos 2 to 5min long (most of mine are).
Bunch of cool little effects tutorials (for VN) found at the How To Edit Under One Minute YT Channel. I really like the ability to animate the text.

the s24 looks neat!
***EDIT
dont like how the audio track is at the top of the timeline in that video editing software. EVERY other editing software I have ever ised aces that track on the bottom by default. its kinda like putting the FILE menu bar iyem on the far right where the help item is...To Me...
maybe i misunderstood. i should watch it again. ill "EDIT" my post if i change my mind.

I'm probably seeing this wrong, but since I'd be using my phone recording... figured the fiddle audio from it would be that very bottom as 'sound' & that top 'music' line could be used for backing I'd record separately.
From all the 'easy lyric video tutorials' I skimmed over, seems most folks adding lyrics have video editing that automatically lines text up with the sung words in their video. I won't have anything sung, but I should be okay with copy/pasting lyric phrases & approximating on the timeline.
...still, hesitating to consider editing anything on even a newer phone, because of the size. I lose my patience after so much squinting & trying to zoom in on everything I already have on my Note10+!
