Hey Barry, can we do The Ash Grove?  I've already got a head start.

Damn, should've combed my hair.

Another 200 hours practice and I'll have it!

Oh, I love The Ash Grove! We used to sing it in Girl Scouts. In fact, I have the music for it in my Girl Scout music book (yes, I still have it after all these years).

This version doesn't have some of the embellishments that I heard you play, Robyn, but it does have a descant, which is very easy and would make for a lovely second part.

If your version is in the same key (mine is in G), maybe we'll have three parts.

If you get the thread started, Robyn, I'll post the sheet music that I have, along with the descant as a separate part, so you can see what you think.

Gee, you guys are putting a lot of faith in someone who can't even get the tune right.

Yes, it's in G, I downloaded it at http://www.jaybuckey.com

I know that version is a little beyond my capabilities, but not difficult for the likes of Barry and Naska ... and yes, you Diane, and lots of others.

I also have a simpler version, probably more to my level, but I really like the one from Jay Buckey.

There are bound to be many versions in print, all at different levels, but if we agree on a key and someone develops a click track, away we go.

I have no idea how to start a new thread, so if someone wants to do that for me (or tell me how to), we could get started.

These were offered by Kurt:

http://iowacreativemusic.com/p.....p?item=284

http://sheetmusic.lyco.org.au/.....h%20Grove/

I haven't seen them, but I'll check out the links too.  The first link here is in the key of D, but could easily be transcribed.

If you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right.

Thanks to you all in this thread I found Red Wing, downloaded the music and got to work.  I really like it.

Diane and Barry: Agreed! Let's do this again at a later date and a more universally comfy speed. Maybe Pierre or Barry could even write up some harmony/bass like on other projects. That'd be stellar!
Also: well done, everyone! thumbs-up

FINALLY thumbs-up

Since there was only 3 participants I made it a collaboration.

I'm a little sad that not more members got involved but am very happy for Barry, Naska and Diane's efforts. Great job guys. Also, I finally figured out how to get more than 2 videos on one picture. It REALLY drags down my computer. Wish I had a more powerful processor for this. Every slight change takes a lot of time and there is no way for me to accurately see if the timing is right to make adjustments. I guess my next investment will have to be a powerful stationary computer to run Final Cut Pro on.

Sooooo, now we are a bit farther along in experience and skills, does anyone want to revisit this?  I would.

I'm game! I play it all the time (by heart now) and am much better than I was then, relatively speaking.
So, how do you want handle the logistics?

Well since I have no editing programs, I was hoping someone would step up and volunteer.  Lol.  Pierre didn't you get a new computer/magic put videos together program?

OK, OK, I can't take the pressure anymore...I'll do the editing!lumpy-2134

Just teasing, but I would be willing to do the editing, unless someone else is dying to produce a Fiddlerman group project.

We'll also need a click track, IMO. Last time we played along to the Old Time Jam Machine backing track (that's a great resource, BTW), but I think it's too fast for many folks. It's still too fast for me, even though I can play it faster now than when we did the first Red Wing project (I worked out my own way-simplified version for that video).

I'd be willing to create the click track, too, unless someone else really wants to do that.

Lastly, I'm guessing that some folks might need the sheet music. I have a couple of versions that I can post, but others may have their favorite versions. We can either all play the same version, or stick to Barry's approach of more of a freewheeling jam with people playing slightly different versions.

Opinions? dunno

Freewheeling sounds like a lot of fun. We will need to stick to two hard and fast rules, however:

1. Everyone must play in the same key. It's most commonly played in G, so I propose we play in G.

2. Everyone must play at the same tempo or it will be impossible to sync the video/audio. That's why we should use a click track (in ear) or play to a metronome (in ear). Any opinions on a doable tempo?

Beyond that, variations in the melody and player embellishments are welcome and will make it interesting and more jam-like. Oh, it might be good to agree on how many times through we'll play it, but I can always repeat or cut clips as needed in the editing process.

You can send your video file to me via Sprend or Wetransfer. Both work the same way, enter my e-mail address: [email protected] and upload your file. Any standard video format is fine: .mov, .wmv, .avi, or .mpeg.

Lastly, should we set a deadline? If so, what's reasonable?

What BPM will we use? and will there be a backtrack or do we just wing it. There is a good backtrack on Old Time Jam > Guitar\Banjo > SWEET > couldn't say what BPM but the track is SWEET.

I like the click tracks idea since we need it to be all in the same timing.  But I think the backing tracks might muddy it up.  Besides, can you tell I haven't used them much yet lol.
