I have recently started playing the violin, switching from piano because I wasn't interested in piano.I am currently renting a violin, but I have decided to buy one. The one I currently am renting is a cremona sv 175, which my friend (has played violin 7+ years) told me sounds horrible. I have also shown it to others, and they say that I should invest in another violin. I am very passionate about playing, and I don't want a crappy violin to hold me back. I plan on spending $400 on a violin. Here are the violins that have good reviews that I am thinking about getting:

Klaus Mueller Maestro Violin

Fiddlerman Concert Violin

Ricard Bunnel G1

Capriccio Violin Outfit http://www.animato.com.au/stor.....-Rest.html

If you have any others that you think are great, please feel free to reply. Any advice on which to get will be greatly appreciated! Also, I am only looking for outfits. Thanks!

I'm on my iPad so... You do realize that the last one on your list is in Australia right?

Interesting. I thought they could ship to other countries. Will have to look into that.

So many here have the Fiddlerman Concert Violin.   It seems to be a really nice instrument.   I love the look of it as well.  I started with a similar instrument to the concert violin and it is lovely as well and my violin teacher was impressed with it.

@fatcobra27, OK not on the ipad anymore.  Well sure, they can probably ship to other countries, but I doubt that the free shipping applies and what if you want to return it?

I don't know about all of the other violins that you have listed first hand, except for the FM Concert.  I do have one of those.  It was the first violin I bought when I was trying to decide if I could and would learn to play a violin.  While I can't be 100% certain, I find it to be very unlikely that you'll find a better deal for the money.  I did the same thing that you are doing.  I looked all over the place and tried to make the best choice I could.  I eventually decided to give the FM Concert a try, since FM guarantees that if you don't like it, you can send it back for 100% refund.  I ordered it, I played it, and I still have it over a year later and I have no regrets about buying it -- except one.  If I could have only seen into the future to realize that I was going to stick with it, I would have bought the FM Soloist or  something  right off the bat -- but my ability to predict the future is really bad -- which is why I did it the way I did.  So now I have 2 violins.  That's not a bad thing though.  Eventually I might own 3 or maybe 4 who knows?

I've decided between the ricard bunnel g1 or the fm concert. Obviously, because this is a fiddlerman forum, more people will have experience with the concert. I've heard lots of examples of the concert (from the FiddlerShop youtube channel), but I haven't heard enough from the bunnel g1. Both violins have a return policy, and from the reviews i've seen, they both have wonderful customer service.

Hard decision.  There are a couple of options that I can see.  1. Order one of each and return the one you like least. 2. Flip a coin and let fate decide.

With the Bunnel, I would recommend paying a bit extra for a bow upgrade. With the FM concert you'd get a FM carbon fiber bow which is a pretty nice bow, so no need for an upgrade there.

Sound-wise, they're probably about equal. Since I haven't played the Bunnel I can't compare playability to the Concert, but most of the reviews look good.  Personally, I don't like the dark brown varnish on the Bunnel, but that's just a color preference and has no bearing on sound or playability.

Keep us posted on what you decide.  Either way, you're getting a new violin and that's way cool.
