This is a review of the Fiddlershop Violin Tuning Guide App. There are a number of tuning aids, so if you have a different tuner or tuning app and want to discuss it, please start a new topic thread to review it. Thank you very much.

I actually came across this by accident.

Fiddlershop Violin Tuning Guide App

I downloaded this the other day and love it. There are a lot of tuning apps out there, free and at a cost. They have all those graphs and lines going up and down. Colors changing, etc. This one is simple, clean and straight forward. This app was 99 cents.

The peg and string it coincides with is shown. It is only for tuning the open strings, so is not meant to check your intonation when playing.

This is strictly sound and highlights the peg and string on the screen. The tone will continue until you tap that peg again. I like this because a lot of them just have the tone play for a short period of time and I have to keep turning it on.

One of the things I noticed immediately is that it is training my ears to hear the correct open E, open A, open D and open G. This is because it does keep playing the tone until until I choose to turn it off or select another string. This enables me to just concentrate on tuning and listening without having to stop and activate that tone again.

I have, at times, turned the wrong peg or played the wrong string when tuning. It is not that I don't know which string goes with which peg, I just did the wrong one. This app reminds me. 😁😂

I love this app and know it will help me be able to learn to tune without an aid much more quickly than any other tuning guide or tool I have tried. I could feel the tones beginning to click yesterday when I was using it.

I believe it is iOS and Android, but watch the video accessed by the above link to be sure. Gibbles gives a very entertaining description of the app.

I tried other methods and found this one, and just wanted to review this app to let others know about it. Works best for me for my violins.

By the way, if you are searching for it in the Apple app store, search for "Violin Tuning Guide". It might the same for the android version, in its store, but I do not know.
